the professional chamber orchestra resident in taunton and performing across the south of england

  We firmly believe everyone deserves the opportunity to experience a wide variety of classical music, no matter what age.The Orchestra is renowned for its musical excellence and is one of the most distinctive chamber ensembles in the South.Southern Sinfonia performs in Taunton and other venues, accompanies a range of well known Choirs and Choral Socities in major Cathedral performances and is developing an Education programme for students andrecitals in Care Homes for those living in and around our Garden Town

With Sir Roger Norrington, our Patron, the orchestra was established in 1995 based in Newbury, Berkshire.

Simon Chalk

We moved to Taunton in 2016 and have established our residency at Queens College under our Artistic Director and conductor, Simon Chalk

 Over the past twenty years we have given performances in London, Canterbury, Romsey, Nottingham and closer to home in Wells, Bath, Exeter, Taunton, Bristol and Christchurch Priory, Dorset

Our orchestral and choral concerts are exhilarating and uplifting and we perform with the South of England’s best known chamber choirs and choral societies.We have staged young and older Musician of the Year competitions and been involved in extensive educational programmes.
Our intention for the future is to expand further into the South West while maintaining our current connections across the South of England.
